Hip and Happening - New Attractions in Singapore

First published in Elysiants on 6 November 2011.

Haven't been to ol' S'pore for a while? It has changed so much you probably can't recognise it anymore. With the airfares so low nowadays, it is worth a trip to check out the new Singapore.

Hotel

Wondering what that canoe is doing on top of those three curvy buildings? That is the new Marina Bay Sands. The observation deck doubles as an infinity pool for hotel residents, so you can enjoy the ultimate view of Singapore in the pool while munching on yummy snacks and refreshments from the pool bar.

Food

So you are a chocolate junkie? Don't miss the Chocolate Bar by Max Brenner at the Esplanade. Their chocolate, which comes in every shape and size, is rich and smooth. You will need a glass of water on the side to down every chocolate dish.

Attractions

The new Universal Studios in Singapore is definitely not just for kids. With crazy rides and spectacular behind the scenes effects, it is where you can easily spend a day. There are several water rides and water shows, so be prepared to get totally drenched. Drop by the candy stores on the way out for some quirky souvenirs.

Nightlife

Fear of heights? Test yourself at the world's highest al fresco bar, Altitude. Everything starts to look rather surreal when you are partying on the world's highest open air dance floor. They also have a sports bar downstairs for you to impress the ladies with your amazing golfing skills at their indoor golf simulator.

Singapore's most trendy club is Butter Factory, and the huge queues at their doors every night support this view. They have several different lounges with various themes, so you can be sure to spot something you fancy.
