Fire Fighters on Board - Fireboat Alexander Grantham Exhibition Gallery

First published in Elysiants on 11 November 2011.

A few Sundays ago, Rebecca and I ventured out to the Fireboat Alexander Grantham Exhibition Gallery at Quarry Bay Park. Neither of us has been there before, so geared up with the Google Map, we explored the unchartered territories.

Walking through the Park, we were greeted by many runners. The fireboat makes a great detour during a daily workout. As soon as we crossed the flyover towards the fireboat, we saw a vast amount of sailboats in the Victoria Harbour. Is there a race then? It was certainly a great day for sailing.

They have daily guided tour in Cantonese on weekend afternoons, but we decided to discover the fireboat for ourselves. The facilities on board were rather primitive, and we can hardly begin to imagine what it would be like to be on board for an extensive period of time.

The restoration of the fireboat was very impressive, and we had great fun toying around with all the firefighting facilities. Having the fireboat set right next to the coast gave a false impression that we are out there in the ocean, minus the seasickness of course.

The exhibition is free for entry, so here is another place on the list to visit over the Labour Day and Buddha's Birthday holidays.
