The Artistree is getting more musical bliss as the Hong Kong Sinfonietta trots in and takes over! Out of the concert hall and into the commercial space, they will be bringing us a series of special performances, featuring orchestral, chamber, Chinese and tango music.
At 3:00pm on Saturday, 12 November 2011, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta decides to do something different and invited their chairman, Shih Wing-ching, over for a casual chat. He will be sharing his life experiences and his passion for music.
At 8:00pm tomorrow night, 11 November 2011, and Saturday night, 12 November 2011, they will be performing a multimedia production, the Twelve Contemplations on Jesus Christ and Mystical Love, featuring composer/installation artist Samson Young and his collaborators in expressing the infancy and death of Jesus Christ in an alternative way. So register online now, and experience their unique brand of Christmas musical!
From Saturday, 12 November 2011, to Sunday, 13 November 2011
Mardi Gras is a huge deal abroad, so I don't see why it shouldn't be the same in Hong Kong! Youth Arts Foundation is organising the carnival again after its success last year, having attracted over 65,000 Hong Kongers to spend the afternoon in Victoria Park. From 10:00am on Saturday, 12 November 2011 and Sunday, 13 November 2011, they will be rocking the Alice in the Wonderland theme.
Both the parade and the booths will be going overboard with this year's theme, and the school kids and local artists have collaborated in making eight huge puppets and over thousand pieces of artwork. In the parade, the kids will all be dressed as characters from Alice in the Wonderland, so I am expecting a Disney-esque atmosphere. There will also be African drums, acrobatics, and other dance performances, so join in their unique Sun Dance and enjoy the day in the cool autumn breeze!

Shinehouse Theatre, one of the most energetic professional theatres in Taipei, will be hosting their first performance in Hong Kong at 8:00pm on Thursday, 24 November 2011 and Friday, 25 November 2011, being held in the Culture Club. Their drama, named Those Stories We’ve Heard, is based on a series of insignificant yet fascinating stories we have probably heard before in real life, which expresses how a soul can impact upon another. It could be love that is translated through an eye contact, or perhaps the pain of someone close passing on. Culture Club serves a diverse range of drinks during the play, from decent wines to herbal tea, so email them to reserve your seats now!
From Saturday, 26 November 2011 to Monday, 12 December 2011
French Cinepanorama, the oldest film festival in Hong Kong, is back! This is the place where you can enjoy the works of both well established filmmakers, as well as new talents from France, through a wide selection of styles, including fictions, documentaries, animations, short films and restored classics.
I want to watch L’Autre monde, which is Black Heaven in English. Showing in Pacific Place and the One, the movie portrays a couple enjoying their summer in the south of France, until a lost cell phone led them to its deceased owner in amidst of a mysterious suicide ceremony, with a half unconscious girl lying right next to him. Where would all this lead to?
I also want to see On Tour Tournée, which is being shown in City Hall, IFC, and Broadway Cinematheque. The male protagonist left his life behind to start afresh in America, and later returning back to France with a team of burlesque strip-tease performers. The repatriation has somewhat unfolded the secrets of his wounded past. Click here for the rest of the movies shown for this year's film festival, and get your tickets here now!
