2011 Fall/Winter Must Have - Boots

First published in Butterboom on 28 October 2011.

Winter is the best time to put your sandals and ballerina flats away, and indulge in a shopping spree on beautiful boots. Hong Kong doesn't have a very long winter, if any at all, so you really don't have much time to waste in flaunting these beauties. This winter's boots come in all shapes and sizes, so there will definitely be something for everyone.

Ankle Boots

Seed Heritage

Costume National

Furla

Cole Haan

Sergio Rossi

This season's ankle boots are more on the neutral tones with a matte finishing, putting together a terrific staple for your wardrobe. Block heels like these ones from Furla, Seed Heritage, and Costume National (Available in Lane Crawford) gives off a raw look, which is great for daily wear. In contrast, stilettos from Cole Haan and Sergio Rossi are there to show off your alluring calves, making it great for the evenings.

Knee Height Boots

Tory Burch

H&M

Prada

Diane Von Furstenberg

Christian Louboutin

Knee height boots for the coming winter, on the other hand, varies quite a bit in style, with the understated riding boots from H&M and Tory Burch, adding a chic equestrian style to your casual winter look; to the flamboyant collection that Prada and Diane Von Furstenberg are sporting, bringing all the attention to your legs with spectacular prints and exotic materials. If you want to play it safe, Christian Louboutin has an option somewhat in between the two extremes, being subtly refined.

Over the Knee Boots

Mango

Valentino

Joy & Peace

Jimmy Choo

Rick Owens

Much like the ankle boots, the over the knee boots for this season are also focused on the neutral tones, while the heels are much higher than that of the ankle boots, in order to accentuate your length, giving off an elongated look. Valentino, Mango, and Joy & Peace created a selection of dark coloured boots, which would go rather well with any colour of leggings, paired with oversized knitwear that I was talking about on my last article. Alternatively, Jimmy Choo's sharp coloured boots is going to brighten up your look, wearing black for everything except for these lovelies. For the ultimate sculptural piece, get Rick Owens' funky boots, which is available from On Pedder. Have fun stocking up on boots, and drop us a line to let us know how it went!
