Symphony Under the Stars - A Space Odyssey 2011

Published exclusively in this site on 24 October 2011.

Can it get any better than watching movies outdoors in the cool autumn breeze? Actually, it can! Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra is hosting their annual complimentary outdoor concert, Symphony Under the Stars, at 7:30pm on Friday, 11 November 2011, in the Happy Valley Racecourse Recreation Ground. Although the concert is free, you still need to grab the tickets to attend, which are available either from selected Tom Lee, or register with HKPO website starting from 10:00am on the coming Friday, 28 October 2011.

A Space Odyssey, as this year's celestial symphonic event is named, consists of celebrated pieces by legendary composers, including J Strauss II, Mozart, Debussy, which are being played in a relaxing and romantic setting. Perry So, HKPO’s Associate Conductor, joined by Israeli-Russian classical pianist Boris Giltburg, will be blasting you off around the galaxy with renowned compositions like The Magic Flute or The Blue Danube, so even if you aren't too musically inclined, you will still be able to enjoy the evening.

What’s more? This year’s experience is enhanced with an interactive session thanks to the late Steve Jobs! You can play alongside with the symphony by transforming your iPhone into an unique musical instrument using an app designed by the HKPO just for this purpose. For those of you who are Android and Blackberry users, no fear, as the HKPO is also dishing out tips on how to make your own DIY musical instruments to jam with their orchestra, so follow their Facebook Fan Page for further details. Paired with fine wines and delicacies, soft blankets and pillows, I think you have just found yourself a memorable date under a starlit November night.
