Virtual Retail Therapy - Online Shopping in Hong Kong

First published in Elysiants on 2 December 2011.

Online shopping has gone from a fad to a norm. Hong Kongers are busy individuals who spend all day at our offices, so shopping online seems like the best alternative for us to cope with our hectic lives. Shipping for overseas online shopping is a nightmare, so local online shopping has definitely been my favourite. Let's see what local online shops we have to choose from!

Fashion -  ShopDesCreateurs.com

This is the Hong Kong version of Net-a-Porter, which carries around 30 emerging brands from Hong Kong and Paris for both men's wear and women's wear. They are a platform which new designers can showcase their work, and once your orders are placed, the designers themselves will prepare for the shipment. They carry brands based on their designs, quality, and pricing, so you can be sure what you get is an one-of-a-kind steal.

Books - Paddyfield.com

This is one of my favourite shopping sites, because their vast collection of books does outshine physical bookstores, and I was able to get some priceless humour books like Yes, Prime Minister and Pains in Office without having to pay overseas shipping fees on Amazon. They have a physical office in Wanchai as well if you fancy picking up the books yourself rather than have it delivered, though they do offer free shipping after a certain amount. If you are skeptical about online credit card payment, they also offer a choice of payment by cheque.

Meal - Dial a Dinner

Stuck in the office for the night? If you aren't working in a printer, Bloomberg, or Macquarie where they offer an elaborate buffet in a pantry that looks like a million dollars kitchen, then this site will be useful for you. They work together with restaurants, so essentially the service they provide is coordination and delivery, and what they charge is a mere 10% of your order. Saves your time getting in and out of the office, so that you can get home earlier! They would get you to choose a restaurant in your neighbourhood, so to save the time for traffic and ensure you get a decent hot meal.

Skincare - Elegant Beauty

I love this shop as a physical store, but their online shop is rather handy as well. They carry Sulwhasoo, Julique, Dermalogica at a fraction of the retail price, and they even have the Aussie's favourite Lucas Papaw available. They have discount stamp cards and birthday discounts as well, so you can save a lot by grouping your shopping together with your friends. Their physical shops, in Causeway Bay, Central, and Tsim Sha Tsui, are both a retail outlet and a facial parlour, so when you have the time do pay them a visit!

Lingerie - Bralicious

This shop has everything from an A cup to a H cup, maternity bra to sports bra to sexy lingerie, so it is a shop for every woman, or indeed, every man shopping for a romantic night with his partner. Don't know your size? Book a fitting session with Nicki at their offices in Central! My favourite product is this Brabuddy clip, where you can instantly hide your bra straps when you are wearing a 2xu's singlet, Beyond Yoga's racerback top, or Zobha's Amelia cut out dress. It can be attached to any bra, so you don't need to get a new bra just for that dress!
