More on Getting Hitched - What the Groom Wears

First published in Elysiants on 19 January 2012.

After the previous post on where grooms can get their looks ready, this one is on what you should consider wearing on the day. I know there are so many places for brides to make a fuss over what they wear, that it almost seems like nobody would notice even if the grooms turned up in his boxers. But hey, the boys should look their tip top as well, so let's see what the wedding experts recommended.

Suit

Wedding suits usually come in black, white, or grey, depending on what you would fancy having. You would probably want to discuss this with your fiancée first so that she can match her wedding dress and ball gowns with your suits.

In commemoration of the Royal Wedding, Thomas Pink has launched a wedding service in the United Kingdom for grooms tying the knot this year. So if you are thinking of a British wedding, drop them a line and see what is in stores!

So you know exactly what it is you want? Swing by W.W. Chan & Sons for the finest bespoke suits. They have been in business for ages, and their immaculate Shanghainese tailoring skills have taken them around the world to fit clients in different regions, so you can be sure they know what they are doing.

Bored of the conventional tux? You might want to get hitched in a kilt! There are lots of subtleties in kilts that you will need to choose, the first would be whether you favour the Argyle kilt or the Prince Charlie kilt. Then you would also need to figure out what tartan you prefer. Yeah, there is actually a deeper meaning to kilts other than just the colours looking good together.

Love the dancing and cheerful atmosphere? What about an Indian Wedding? A spectacular Wedding Sherwani and Kurta Pajamas will make you stand out from the crowd, and match up to your bride who would probably be covered in lots of gold.

Tie/Bowtie

When you are choosing the ties for your groomsmen and yourself, take a look at what your bride and her bridesmaids are wearing. You might just want to match it with the colour of their dresses. Go to Mr. Porter or Tie Rack for a mind-numbing amount of options.

Watch

You really don't want to be late on your big day, so a decent dress watch is probably a good idea. Both Vacheron Constantin and Audemars Piguet are world renowned Swiss luxury watchmakers, so visit them and see what you can get to match your suit!

Shoes

If you are having a church wedding, chances are you might have to kneel down at some point and show the soles of your shoes to the congregation. That will be when you wish you were wearing some decent new shoes with clean soles and no sticky labels on. Go to Harrys of London or Bally for an amazing pair of dress shoes. You can also custom make your dress shoes at the local shoe shops I have mentioned before.

Actually, Harrys of London supplies custom made loafers called Bespoked Downing, which have shoe soles made of Vibram in shocking bright colours like blue, green, fuchsia, teal, and purple. It sounds awesome, but I am not sure just how cool your bride would be with that idea.
