Exploring New Zealand with Your Artistic Side

Published exclusively in this site on 29 July 2011.

The annual World of Wearable Art® competition will be held in Wellington, New Zealand at the end of August. The contest aims to combine fashion with traditional art forms, so we can embrace art on a day to day basis. Fancy going? Join Air New Zealand's Hong Kong competition, and win a holiday for two to New Zealand, and watch the WOW® awards ceremony with your complimentary VIP tickets!

Did someone just ask how you can enter this competition? Simple. Just submit your artwork before 12 August 2011 on Air New Zealand's facebook fan page, and the 10 pieces that got most LIKE will be shortlisted for Dr. Tricia Flanagan of Hong Kong Baptist University to pick a winner. Be creative with the materials you use, and turn your ideas into wearable art now!

I have always wanted to go New Zealand. Have you watched America's Next Top Model Cycle 14? Boy that place is scenic! Look at ANTM Cycle 14 winner Krista in this gorgeous Lloyd Klein dress. The photo wouldn't have been so breathtaking if there weren't such a Wuthering Heights-esque backdrop. Well, the sheep does add to the effect of course.

I recently caught up with Christine, who is just back from New Zealand a few weeks ago, to share a few of her favourite hideaways in Wellington with us. She reckons Wellington has wonderful coffee shops, and in particular, she recommended Customs Brew Bar. For great food, Christine suggested Logan Brown and Flying Burrito Brothers. Be sure to have a stroll along the waterfront after your hearty meals and coffees to work away the love handles. So you are party animal? No fear, Christine said Southern Cross is guaranteed for a terrific night out. On a Sunday morning, the best activity would definitely be to check out the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, and shop away at the Farmers Market outside of the museum afterwards!

The reason I really want to go New Zealand, I must confess, is actually to walk through the Lord of the Rings trail in Queenstown. Geeky, I know, but after watching the trilogy it has been on my mind all the time. I have already recruited companions for this trip, so we just need the time to actually go. Christine said Queenstown is also a great place for both summer and winter sports. Exciting!
