What does turning 30 means to you? Exciting? Daunting? Traumatic? This year marks the 30th anniversary of Stanley Wong's (aka anothermountainman) creative life, and he is at a point where he questions what is coming up next. To celebrate the thirtieth birthday of his artistic career, he decided to gather thirty of Asia's well respected artists, Alan Chan, John Clang, and the late Yasmin Ahmad, just to name a few, and got them to give an artistic interpretation on what is coming up next for them. What's Next 30 x 30, the exhibition as a result of this one simple question, is now being displayed at my favourite location, the Artistree.

Anothermountainman is an indigenous Hong Konger, have been educated and professionally trained entirely here. He is a famous name in Asia's advertising industry, and, in his spare time, expresses himself creatively through photography, focusing on social representation of Hong Kong, such as Hong Kong's signature red white blue bags. So what's all that talk about Hong Kong being a cultural desert, huh?
Through the work of anothermountainman and his thirty friends, he attempts to lead his audience onto a reflective journey, pondering upon humanity and cultural issues. The thirty artists created pieces reflecting their ideas of future, after which, anothermountainman created pieces echoing each of their works. I was pretty tempted to get into this coffin for a quick nap, but there was a rather large bump inside, and I didn't want to risk squashing anything. If you can't resist the urge, do let me know how it feels.
There are guided tours around the exhibition by none other than anothermountainman himself on 24 July 2011, 6 August 2011, and 7 August 2011. The tours are at either 11:30am or 4:00pm, and should last approximately 2.5 hours, so register at the counter on the day and watch the maestro in action!
