Art and the City - Summer Interlude at Schoeni Art Gallery

First published in Lifestyle Asia on 15 July 2011.

It's been a month since ArtHK11 and Le French May is wrapping up shortly as well. Are you starving the artist within you? Then you should pay a visit to Schoeni Art Gallery for an art buffet!

They are hosting a summer exhibition from now until 29 August 2011. The exhibition, Summer Interlude, displays of a diverse range of Chinese contemporary art, which will be rotated throughout the summer to give its audience a full glance of the diversity in styles between classical realism oil painting, modern photographic production, and manga-style 2D paintings.

Joanna Tong from Schoeni was telling me about their regular summer rotational exhibition, posing as a summer break for their gallery. Latest pieces and favourite picks from the Schoeni's exclusive artists and associate artists are showcased during the period. With cutting edge Chinese contemporary art that represents Schoeni, visitors can relax and reflect upon the pieces.

Schoeni's summer rotational exhibition also provided a sneak peak to their much anticipated exhibition in fall,
Yang Yong-liang's Phantom Metropolis. I was mesmerised by his concept of blending traditional Chinese painting with modern landscape at the ArtHK11, so I was definitely excited to see more of his work!

I also like Chen Li's piece, the Visitor. It does remind me of
Wong Hoi-cheong's work I saw in ArtHK11, aiming to challenge the audiences' paradigms and generalisations by putting a shocking factor in a seemingly common environment.
