Published exclusively in 8 July 2011.

Watching Submarine gave me a kick into the British mood, and it will be nice to follow it through by a visit to the British Contemporary Art Exhibition over the weekend. The British Council is showcasing their collections around China as a part of their cultural programme for the Shanghai Expo, and Hong Kong is their third stop. The exhibition, held in the Hong Kong Museum of Heritage, includes pieces by past winners of the influential Turner Prize, like Damien Hirst

British contemporary artists are known for actively engaging their audience, using their work in an attempt to respond to the sociological issues surrounding them. The pieces on display, in many different genres, are shocking, and aim to challenge your perspectives as the receiver.

The art being presented are produced between 1980 and 2010, which is when British art were most influenced by the political, social and cultural changes (think Yes Minister). There will further talks about the exhibition on site, and if you want to learn more about the Brits, you could rsvp here.
