I don't know why everyone except me seems to know that Le French May goes on well beyond May. I guess Le French Mai et Juin just doesn't have the same ring to it? Anyhow, I was pretty surprised to have ran into Bettina Rheims' photo exhibition in the City Hall when I was there for Chung Ying Theatre Company's drama performance, Amadeus.
The complimentary exhibition, Rose, C'est Paris, contains many explicit illustrations of a detective story staged in Paris' exotic cafés, abandoned factories, and magnificent hotels. Bettina Rheims' photographic work, as well as the special screening of a related movie by French film maker Serge Bramly, tells the tale of a mysterious woman searching for her imaginary twin sister in the Parisian underworld.
The layout of the exhibition is very interesting, having cut-outs through the partitions, allowing its viewers to feel like sneaking into a secret hideaway. They also carry the photo book which the exhibition is extracted from, depicting unique portraits of the normal folks plus celebrities such as Naomi Campbell, Michelle Yeoh, and Charlotte Rampling.
Bettina Rheims is a native French photographer renowned for effortlessly combining commercial photography with high-end art to produce provocative imageries, so do drop by during lunch hour and witness her graphic compositions on female nudity!
